Database can be classified in to many types based on different criteria. It consists of an organized collection of data for one or more uses, typically in digital form. There are many benefits a business can get by implementing appropriate database.

Menu Based Interfaces for Web Clients:

Steps to Safeguard Your enabled Passport

RFID technologies are being used in most of the industries. Different organizations are using different types of RFID chips for making the process easier and for managing the time, increasing the profits.

Now-a-days biometric passports are being used for making the verification process easy and authenticated. United States started issuing the passports associated with the RFID chips.
Up to this all looks fine, but in some cases, personal data of yours can be read by the unknown persona part from the authorities by using the scanner. This can be done from a long distance without touching your passport. So, there are some preventive measures to protect against the tracking of the personal information which is in the passport.
  • Identify whether your passport is an enabled one or not: Check for this, on your passport such as, if your passport has the rectangle with a circle and a line across it, then you can say that your passport contains the RFID chip and there is a possibility for reading it from a distance
  • Decide Yourself: Take a quick decision on the RFID enabled passport. Whether you want to be cautious regarding the tracking or want your data to be protected or want your passport to be free of the RFID chip.
  • Firstly if you want to be cautious: check whether there is a shielding to the chip inside the passport. Keep the passport very close when you are keeping it in your purse. Don’t even open it slightly.
  • Secondly, if you want to protect the data: Buy a shielded case for your passport. This protects your enabled passport from being tracked. Or use the aluminum foil, but only in some cases it can give protection.
  • Final Step is to disable the passport permanently, remove the chip by using the microwave or hammer it, this will disable the chip.

Mobile Devices - User Interface Issues

The mobile devices, as named are commonly used while the user is moving with the devices. As the size of the mobile device is small, it is improper to attach normal interfaces like keyboard, mouse etc. So special interfaces like touch pads, touch screens, pointing devices and navigation pads have been designed and widely used for mobile devices now a days. Though miniature keyboards are used for mobile devices, they are difficult to use with speed because of their size.

A major problem with user interfaces is while using the Internet on mobile devices. Many of the web pages are designed for viewing them on large screens that is on our PCs. Because of the limited display size of the mobile devices, if we want to go through a web page we have to struggle a little. When we consider mobile phones while accessing any application we need go through a series of menus to reach the desired application, this consumes lot of interaction and time.

The W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) is designing framework to design pages in such a way that, the web page will be opened in specific manner based on the capabilities of the device and also user preferences. If these two changes are bought into the usage of mobile devices, the user interfaces problem can be rectified to some extent.

What is a mobile application?

Mobile applications are add-on software for hand-held devices, such as smart phones and personal digital assistants (PDA). In the initial days when applications came into markets they were only for entertainment purpose like a game, an audio video player or something that turns the screen of our phone into (for example) a functioning piano keyboard.

Recently though, useful applications have become popular. These include programs for tracking expenses, foreign language phrase books, location detectors and currency converters. Other applications provide reviews of nearby restaurants, lists of local events, or audio walking tours of tourist sites, which require an Internet connection. The GPS application available in smart mobile phones helps us to reach our destinations in new places.

Music and video player related applications such as real player, smart movie player etc. can play all formats of audio and video data. One more interesting and thrilling entertainment application is games that made mobile devices more popular in smaller age groups.

In the month of July 2009, just one year from the time of their launch, 1.5 billion mobile applications were downloaded from the Apple Inc.'s website for iPhone or iPod Touch. This huge, unexpected growth has prompted more and more manufacturers to join the mobile application race.

History of Mobile Computing

Around 1890s Marconi invented the wireless telegraph by encoding the alphanumeric characters in analog signals. He sent the telegraphic signals across the Atlantic Ocean and was successful. After Marconi's great invention, many changes came in the field of technology opening doors for wireless mobile devices.

In 1960's military had started using different types of wireless communication devices for many years. Wireless communications created great advances not only in the communication systems, but also in the aviation and space programs as well. Initially the military developed wireless communication through line of sight (If there were no obstacles between point A and B, you could send and receive electromagnetic waves). Later on, new techniques came that allowed to encompass larger areas such as using atmosphere as the reflection medium.

Later in the 1970's satellite systems emerged and were commercialized. With the arrival of satellite communication systems, the quality of service and reliability increased enormously. However, the satellites are difficult to build and maintain and are very expensive. We had to search for other options for reliable wireless communications. In 1980s, the cellular telephony technologies were commercially viable and the 1990s witnessed the advances in cellular technologies. Later many technologies such as WI-FI, Bluetooth, 2G and 3G emerged in order to make the mobile computing devices more accessible and more reliable.

Limitations of Mobile Devices

The most advance mobile computing devices also have some limitations.

The major limitations are low bandwidth, loss of connectivity with the networks, lack of security, small display, low durable battery and less memory. In addition to all these, mobile devices do not have a standard keyboard that causes problem for the end user to enter information relative to a PC.

Lack of security, this is somewhat a serious issue to be considered with the mobile devices because on network any two unidentified people can contact each other. Moreover, providing security to information passed to wireless networks is also a difficult task. One should be very careful when their device is connected to a wireless network because unauthenticated information may cause damage to the system.

The display size of the mobile devices is very small which causes problems in loading the web pages and graphics. One has to struggle a little to grasp the information on the screen of the mobile device.

Another major problem that prevents us from using the mobile computing devices is its low durable battery. Many of the mobile devices can continuously run only from 4 to 5 hours, so if we are out of battery once, we have to replace the battery or else charge the battery.

Less memory is also one of the limitations, this problem occurs because of the portable size of the device. As the device is so small it cannot accommodate larger capacity hard drives.

Though there are limitations in mobile devices, people have accepted the technology with open arms.

Internet on Mobile

Now a days, numerous personal and business transaction is being done online. Internet has become our daily life activity. We may need to access information from anywhere, anytime and any place, and that information may be an e-mail message, news, and a phone number of a client or the sales figures at the end of the day.

The Internet on mobile facilitates not information access, but also we can use it for entertainment, business activities like performing on-line banking and also for our personal needs like paying bills, on-line shopping etc.

Though we have smart phones with Internet support, they do not completely satisfy all our needs and are not always economically feasible. Internet on mobile devices is great when you have to small petty tasks that are important. For example, you can’t write a detailed email but you can tweet from your mobile phone easily.

A major problem with Internet on mobile devices is, it is a bit slower side than wired networks that should be solved by the much-talked 3G wireless technology.

Though I am not one of those who fight on the basis of westernization, I strongly agree that Westerners have a big impact world wide.

This is the very reason on why it is always the western countries, the victims of terrorism. Even if they attack on eastern countries, the places are those where westernization has a big impact on people of that region.

It is a fact that major inventions in fields of science and technology have taken place in Western regions. Let us start with electricity. Benjamin Franklin was considered one of the founding fathers of USA. And the list continues with the inventions like nuclear power, electric light, telephone, television, mobile phone, and internet. And then we have pencil and ball point pen, from the westerners who gave a writing revolution to the people all over the world.

And some other major things include Computer, bicycle, automobile, and airplane. It is actually a big list.

With the entire hot atmosphere out here, with the US elections, I wish there is some means to predict which candidate would be the next president. The main reason, I am looking for this is that, I have to stand back after losses from stock market crush.

We all know that in stock market business, information is money. The sooner you get the information, the more you will profit. Of course, there are people who have burnt their hands by doing business relying on unreliable sources of information.

Commonsense Knowledge Bases in Artificial Intelligence

In artificial intelligence research, commonsense knowledge is the collection of facts and information that an ordinary person is expected to know. The commonsense knowledge problem is the ongoing project in the field of knowledge representation (a sub-field of artificial intelligence) to create a commonsense knowledge base: a database containing all the general knowledge that most people possess, represented in a way that so that it is available to artificial intelligence programs that use natural language or make inferences about the ordinary world. Such a database is a type of ontology of which the most general are called upper ontologies.

The problem is considered to be among the hardest in all of AI research because the breadth and detail of commonsense knowledge is enormous. Any task that requires commonsense knowledge is considered AI-complete: to be done as well as a human being does it, it requires the machine to appear as intelligent as a human being. These tasks include machine translation, object recognition, text mining and many others. To do these tasks perfectly, the machine simply has to know what the text is talking about or what objects it may be looking at, and this is impossible in general unless the machine is familiar with all the same concepts that an ordinary person is familiar with. Information in a commonsense knowledge base include the following:
  • An ontology (computer science) of classes and individuals
  • Parts and materials of objects
  • Properties of objects (such as color and size)
  • Functions and uses of objects
  • Locations of objects and layouts of locations

Skype Software

Skype is a software program created by the Swedish and Danish entrepreneurs Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis. Skype allows users to make telephone calls over the Internet to other Skype users free of charge, or to landlines and cell phones for a fee. Additional features include instant messaging, file transfer, short message service, video conferencing and its ability to circumvent firewalls. The Skype Group, acquired by e-Bay in September 2005, has headquarters in Luxembourg, with offices in London, Tallinn, Tartu, Prague and San Jose, California. Skype experienced rapid growth in both popular usage and software development since the launch, have both it’s free and its paid services. As if now we have computers to design or print any kind of animations we do. As there is a gradual growth or increase in the technology we get everything done through computers. So I wanted to give the information of how traditional animators used to work and what they used for creating the animations, painting and flashes etc. Non-photo blue pencils are great for doing your initial sketches, because they're just the right shade of pale blue that they tend not to show up on copies when you're transferring your work from paper to clear cels. When you're working on a character animation sometimes it's hard to get your paper to line up again after you've removed it from the light table, so having these peg bar helped in getting everything in its proper place. Art gum eraser, transparencies, paints, brushes; color pencils, watercolors, markers and pastels are used.
