Toyota Concentrating on Rural India

Because of the decrement in the sales of cars in US and European markets, most of the companies are focusing on India to increase their sales. Toyota has been the largest automobile maker in the world.

Japan's Toyota Motor Corp holds a share of 89% in the Toyota Kirloskar Motor(TKM) which is also the automaker. Now, this automaker is planning to change its market strategy by concentrating on the rural regions in India.

As of now, the TKM is mostly concentrating on the metros and urbans, but the company has now decided to market 40% of the cars in the rural markets of India. And the company is hoping to market 70,000 vehicles this year when compared to 55,000 vehicles of last year. The company foresees the market of India and hopes to achieve the target by concentrating on the rural areas.

Compared to other markets, Indian ratio of number of cars to people is very less. So, Toyota is increasing its sales by 10%. The company even plans to increase the sales of small cars in India from January 2011. The sales target of TKM etios is 150,000 car sales in 2011. And even they want to expand more by selling 300,000 to 350,000 cars till 2015. in order to achieve this sales target, the company had decided to enter the market of rural India.

According to the company officials, the company wants to set up an engine manufacturing plant. Because of the emerging rural markets, the company wants to tap the rural market for developing the sales. Even because of this market entering into rural India, the employment will also increase because of the plants which are yet to be set up.
