Prescription Instructions Now Available In Other Languages

New York is the place where a big number of non-English speakers live. It is a state where foreign-born population constitutes 21.3 percent of the entire population (2007 census). It is also the state, where around 30 percent of the residents of the entire state, and around 50 percent of the residents of the New York City - speak in an estimated 170 distinct languages, of course excluding English.

Therefore, it is obviously essential for the government to take care of such hefty amounts of population.

The New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo recently announced that the medical prescriptions would now be available in the primary languages of the non-English speaking New Yorkers. These prescriptions in distinct languages will be handed over to the big-box department stores, drugstore chains, and many supermarket chains by the pharmacies.

Initially, the languages entertained with this new facility are Spanish, Chinese, Italian, Russian, and French. By the next year, the state’s attorney is expecting to expand the list to 150 languages.
