Types Of Micronutrients

Micronutrients are mainly of two types. They are vitamins and minerals. Each micronutrient has a specific role to play in the body.

In this article, we mention types of micronutrients required by the body.

How many types of micronutrients are there?
There are two types – Vitamins and minerals

Vitamins
Vitamins are a type of micronutrients. Their intake is less but still have importance in the body.
Vitamins based on their soluble nature again classified into two types namely water soluble and fat soluble vitamins.
  • Water soluble vitamins - they dissolve in water and transport to different parts of body. These vitamins cannot be stored in the body for long time and they will pass away whenever water is washed out from the body or go along with urine.
Water soluble vitamins include vitamin B and vitamin C.
  • Vitamin B is not a single vitamin, it is complex of vitamins that include
    • Thiamine(B1)
    • Riboflavin(B2)
    • Niacin(B3)
    • Pantothenic acid(B5)
    • Pyridoxine(B6)
    • Biotin(B7)
    • Folic acid
    • Cyanocobalamin(B12)
Vitamin C is available in ascorbic acid form.
  • Fat soluble vitamins – These vitamins are soluble in fats and they can be stored in the body. They include Vitamin A,D, E and K.
Most of the fat soluble vitamins have anti oxidant property which has role in protecting cells from damage.

Importance and intake of these vitamins differ from one age group to other. For example, some vitamins are required in high amounts for pregnant and lactating women, requirement of some vitamins is high for teenagers, some vitamins in high amounts for menopause and old age etc.
Minerals
Minerals belong to a class of micronutrients. Their requirement is very less to the body but importance is inevitable.

Minerals again categorized into macro minerals and micro minerals or trace elements.
  • Macro minerals – Magnesium, calcium, potassium, sodium, chlorine, phosphate and sulfur.
  • Micro or trace minerals – Iron, zinc, manganese, copper, selenium, chromium, boron, cobalt, fluoride, molybdenum, iodine.
Each mineral has a key role in maintaining normal body functions. They have a major role in different metabolisms that synthesize proteins, fats, carbohydrates etc.

Some of the minerals they assist enzymes and speed up the reactions. Some directly involve in some processes like iron help in synthesis of blood pigment hemoglobin which carry oxygen to heart.

Minerals are also important for growth, synthesis of some essential hormones, and maintain nervous system.

It is the role played by each micronutrient that differentiate from each other. They can act individually or in combination based on body requirement. They have a predominant place in body maintenance irrespective of quantity in which they are required.

Know About Vitamins that Help in Muscle Growth

Muscle growth is primarily important for giving body a definite shape and to stay fit. Muscle growth can be seen from childhood to adulthood. After certain age, there will be decline in muscle growth due to reduction in calcium and vitamin D. Therefore, make sure to take care with regard to calcium and vitamin D deficiencies. In this article, we discuss vitamins that help in muscle growth.

Vitamins for muscle growth
Muscle growth takes place near hands, legs, heart muscles and lung muscles. Vitamin D, C, E, B complex, iron and proteins help in muscle development.
  • Vitamin D helps in calcium deposition on bones and their overall development. Deficiency of this vitamin leads to formation of improper bones leading to rickets in children.
  • Vitamin C provides oxygen continuously to muscles to continue metabolism that stimulate muscle growth.
  • Vitamin B complex is depository of energy, it prevents muscle tiredness. They promote protein synthesis that is very important for body building.
  • Vitamin E also helps in circulating blood to muscles for their proper functioning.
  • Iron is very important to promote blood supply from lungs to muscles.
  • Calcium and phosphorous are good for muscle or bone development.
  • Coenzyme Q10 is another vitamin that is very important in supplying oxygen to heart muscles for its normal functioning.
Diet that helps in muscle growth
  • Eating food that contains calcium, iron and all the above vitamins helps in muscle growth.
  • Vitamin B complex rich foods – cereals, bread, meat, milk, peas, fish, legumes, soybeans, brown rice, brewer's yeast, etc.
  • Vitamin C foods – strawberries, orange, green peppers, red berries, etc.
  • Protein rich food - egg yolk, salmon mackerel, flax seed oils, etc.
  • Calcium and vitamin D – milk, bananas, broccoli, leafy vegetables, etc.
  • Proteins are the building blocks of muscles, so protein rich diet helps in muscle growth.
For kids muscle growth supports proper walking, development of heart muscles, brain muscles and nervous system. If these muscles are not developed it may lead to many disorders.

Requirement of vitamins at menopause stage, specially for women is very important because they have low calcium and vitamin D levels, because of which muscles become weak and create muscle weakness in women, they cannot do more activities, and often feel tired. Proper intake of vitamins is required.

Main function of muscles is contraction and relaxation. Imagine, if heart muscles are not developed properly and heart contraction and relaxation is improper then it leads to heart failure.

Things You Need to Know About Multivitamin Supplements

It is known that vitamin supplements help a lot to cure various diseases that arise due to vitamin deficiencies. They are not only taken in such disease conditions, but also taken daily in normal conditions to ensure adequate supply of vitamins for the body in order to maintain the perfect functioning. Multivitamin supplements are the special ones which enable providing various kinds of vitamins at a time. Go through to know about multivitamin supplements.

Multivitamin supplements are the preparations which include different kinds of vitamins, minerals and other nutritional elements. They may be available as tablets, capsules, liquids and even injectable formulations. Generally a multivitamin supplement is considered to have three vitamins and minerals without any herbs, drugs or hormones. The levels of vitamins and minerals in these supplements do not cross the maximum tolerable levels.

Deficiencies of various kinds of vitamins can be cured by the use of multivitamin supplements. They can be used by people of any age. For instance, generally older people often suffer from vitamin D deficiency and have poor bone health. They need vitamin D supplements to aid absorption of calcium. However, most of them also suffer from anemia that is caused by vitamin B12 deficiency and so they even need vitamin B12 supplements. Instead of taking both of the supplements individually, it is better to take them in combination as multivitamin supplements. Another such supplement includes beta-carotene, vitamin E and selenium which is used to reduce the risk of gastric cancer. There are also various kinds of multivitamin supplements which improve blood concentration levels thereby, improving the functioning of the body. Consult your doctor if necessary to use specific type of multivitamin supplements and ensure the adequate supply of essential vitamins.

Prescription Instructions Now Available In Other Languages

New York is the place where a big number of non-English speakers live. It is a state where foreign-born population constitutes 21.3 percent of the entire population (2007 census). It is also the state, where around 30 percent of the residents of the entire state, and around 50 percent of the residents of the New York City - speak in an estimated 170 distinct languages, of course excluding English.

Therefore, it is obviously essential for the government to take care of such hefty amounts of population.

The New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo recently announced that the medical prescriptions would now be available in the primary languages of the non-English speaking New Yorkers. These prescriptions in distinct languages will be handed over to the big-box department stores, drugstore chains, and many supermarket chains by the pharmacies.

Initially, the languages entertained with this new facility are Spanish, Chinese, Italian, Russian, and French. By the next year, the state’s attorney is expecting to expand the list to 150 languages.

Americans Have To Watch Out, For Their Breakfast Can Make Them Fat

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Because you’ll have fewer calories for the rest of the day and thus decrease your probability of becoming fat. But recent studies say that a hefty breakfast can also make you fat. People with high-quality proteins in their breakfast are found to be losing 65% more weight than the people having breakfast with wrong based nutrients. As far as I read, the worst break fast will be the Bob Evans Stacked and Stuffed Caramel Banana Pecan Hotcakes, which contain 1,543 calories and 77g of fat. You can’t afford to start a day with such a meal, do you? So if you are really in a hurry for such a break fast, you can have 3 Scrambled Egg Beaters with 2 slices of bacon and fresh fruit. This recipe has not more than 314 calories and 19.5g of fat.

All about Baldness

Baldness, thinning or loss of hair as a result of illness, functional disorder, or hereditary disposition; also known as alopecia. Male pattern baldness, a genetic trait, is the most common cause of baldness among white males. But they are rarely susceptible in as much as it develops under the influence of testosterone, however, may experience an overall thinning of the hair. Hair loss begins at the forehead and crown and is slowly progressive. Hair-follicle transplants may cosmetically disguise male pattern baldness. Drug treatments with minoxidil or finasteride have been used with limited effectiveness. Diseases characterized by high fever like for example, scarlet and typhoid fevers, malnutrition, chemotherapy, and glandular disorders can all cause balding. Treatment of the disease or dysfunction will usually halt the loss of hair, and if the scalp and hair follicles are not severely damaged, hair will usually grow again spontaneously. Scalp infection, oiliness or dirtiness of the scalp and hair, and excessive teasing and lacquering of hair are also conducive to baldness. Alopecia areata is a disease of unknown origin characterized by non-inflamed bald patches in the scalp hair and beard. It is recurrent but is usually of short duration. You need to call your doctor in the following circumstances:

If hair loss occurs in an atypical pattern -- rapid hair loss, diffuse shedding, hair loss in patches, or breaking of hair shafts. Itching, skin irritation, redness, scaling, pain, or other symptoms accompany hair loss. Your hair loss begins after starting a medication etc.
