What is Yeast and Yeast Infection

Yeast is a fungus and scientifically it is referred as Candida. Generally, it is present on human skin and in moisture areas like mouth and vagina. Generally, healthy women carry 20 percent to 50 percent of yeast in vaginal area.

Yeast infection is called as candidiasis. This occurs in moist parts of the body like mouth and skin which is moist. There are many reasons for overgrow of candida. Immune system can be affected by pregnancy, illness, stress which allows yeast growth. Some medicines, like birth control pills and steroids may support the growth of yeast. Taking antibiotics can kill the good bacteria, it may increase te growth of candida. If any girl has high blood sugars, it will result in growth of candida. If girls have diabetes then they have higher risk of yeast infection.


Candidiasis can be avoided by having hygienic environment around. Environment should be dry and one has to avoid douches and other sprays and wipes to keep away the candida. Antibiotic usage should be avoided by women because it kills the good bacteria which are necessary to body to stop the yeast overgrowth.


Because of the hormonal changes, many girls get yeast infections in their lives. Using scented sanitary products and douching can cause the yeast infection. Doctor cannot say how did you acquire the yeast infection, but it can cured by treatment.


One can avoid this yeast infection by keeping environment dry and should not take more antibiotics and use good sanitary products.
