A good MMA fighter should have a high quality MMA gear if not it effects his performance in the ring. Most important fight gear in MMA is the glove which helps to protect the fighters knuckles from breaking on impact of the opponent in the case of body shots. There are many types of MMA gloves available in the market like MMA professional gloves, Gel shock gloves, training gloves and amateur competition gloves, each type of the glove is suited for a specific task. The MMA gloves come in several styles including knuckle strips, hand wraps, wrist wraps etc. For competitions, some MMA fighters use surgical wraps for extra hand and wrist support. Here are some tips which may help you to select right MMA gloves:
  • Try to select a quality pair of gloves because as earlier said it effects the performance of the fighter and grappling is a skill that a good fighter should have as it is used to counterpart an opponent.
  • While purchasing MMA gloves it is also important to consider the material with which it is made and the gloves should be made up of 100 percent leather on the main parts. Amateur competition gloves are leather gloves with an open palm construction and are suitable for both competition and training.
  • Also look for the gloves which have Velcro closure on the wrap around and they are built in for shock absorbing.
  • The design of the gloves must be good and now a days manufacturers are making gloves with neoprene to soften hand enclosures.
  • While purchasing MMA gloves look at the gloves and check whether they have padding over the knuckle area to ensure that the hands are protected during the fight. UFC rule is 1 inch padding should be there over the knuckle joint area which is standard, but the amount can vary depending on the gloves.
Gloves are the most important part of the MMA fighting, which provide protection to the hands. Therefore, right care should be taken while selecting suitable gloves.
