Factors Affecting the Durability of Carpets

Carpets add charm and comfort to your rooms. The main idea to get a carpet is basically to decorate our houses. For this reason we definitely go for good looking ones. But another important factor which has to be considered while buying a carpet is its quality. Since we buy carpets more often it is necessary to go for more durable ones. So how to know whether they are durable or not.

Certain factors will determine the life of the carpet. Here are few tips which help you to buy a carpet which offers excellent durability.
  • Density: First thing to check with the carpets is their density. It is just checking how the carpet tufts are packed together. The higher density carpets are much resistant to crushing, matting and are durable than low density ones. Many people are with a misconception that high density carpets are expensive. But you can also get high density ones for lesser costs.
  • Pile Height: Length of the carpet is also crucial in determining the quality of the carpet. The higher the length the more will be the materials used for its preparation. However, it is always believed that the shorter the carpet pile the longer the carpets life.
  • Material: The material used in weaving the carpet also plays a major role in deciding its quality. Generally different types of fibers are used in carpet weaving. Among them wool and nylon fibers are said to be highly durable when compared to others. They do have stain resistance and soil resistant capabilities. Some other fibers like the polyester offer excellent sun damage resistance.
  • Padding: Padding is another important factor which affects the durability of the carpet. Choose the padding in the best of its form. High density, low profile padding is a good one for all the carpets. Rubber padding will offer even more high quality and resistance.
  • Carpet Twist: Carpet twist is nothing but the number of times a carpet's fiber has been spun before being set. The more revolutions the twist has, the better the carpet is. To check the quality of a carpet's twist examine its ends. They should be tight and neat. Loose open strands are an indication of low quality, less durable ones.
  • Color: Color is the one among different things which decides the durability of the carpet. The more darker the color of your carpet the higher will be the life since darker colors do not easily show off any dirt and stains.
If you keep all these factors in mind while purchasing a carpet you can definitely get a more durable carpet.
