Yoga Can Ease Lower Back Pain: John Hopkins

Yoga is an ancient form of exercise which is now getting popular to heal many ailments. As it is the most natural form of curing various disorders many people are getting attracted to it. New researches are adding a new benefit every day to make it even more popular and to make the people to practice yoga more. Another study which was supported by John Hopkins institute of health sciences added one more benefit of doing yoga.

The study was conducted from Annals of the Internal Medicine, which studied three groups of adults with chronic low back pain over a 12 week period. The experts compared the participant's experiences with yoga and conventional physical therapy and found that yoga yielded significantly better results. It showed positive results such as the reduced pain and the improved back function. Surprisingly, they found that these benefits lasted for 14 weeks even after the yoga session has ended. They also stated that yoga increases muscle strength and flexibility, reduces tension, decreases fear and reduces psychological stress.

However, the study only looked at the the effect of people with minor back pain issues such as muscle strains and sprains. So, yoga might be effective for small issues when it comes to major issues like herniated disc, scoliosis and spinal stenosis, the experts are suggesting to consider some better treatment.

According to the experts from John Hopkins even after the doctor permits you to do yoga, it is always necessary to make sure to know exactly what type of yoga is required for a particular ailment. Some yoga postures are too tough to do for the beginners. So there are particular poses which are meant for beginners suffering from lower back pain. They have also suggested that it is very important to select a qualified and certified trainer to practice yoga, to reap better benefits from it.
